#189: Faith; How?

Image
Inhaling and exhaling is a gift we don’t stop to think about very much. We just do it. In the same great way, God has offered us as Christians a way to “breathe spiritually” for our well-being which is through faith. Having faith equals having trust. It means trusting God with your entire being that he has your back that he will take care of you. He knows what is best, but to truly embrace what he has planned for you, you have to fully trust. Our trust is not foolish, for our God is both faithful and good. Faith is a gift from God and not something we can create. In Hebrews 12:2 , the originator of our faith calls us to consider his ultimate example of perseverance. He reminds us that runners in an athletic competition cannot be distracted by peripheral objects. Hence, as runners in this race of life, we must “fix our eyes on Jesus.” As we run, we must be looking at Him in faith. He is more than our example; He is our final destination. We must run toward Him with all our might, in the...

#188: Grow thy Faith

Image
So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ. Romans 10;17 In our last post, we established the fact that we are empowered by Faith. We saw that faith is trusting God and not your guts in every situation, it is the firm foundation under everything that makes life worth living. Our ancestors, the Giants of Faith had this secret and so they built their life on a firm foundation that enabled them to be set above the crowd. It entails trusting God even when the situation says otherwise. We need faith to please God. This, therefore, tells us how important it is for us to build our faith.   And without faith, it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him. Hebrews 11:6 Today, we will be looking at one of the ways through which we can build our faith. This is through the WORD of God. The beginning, progress, and strength of faith is by hearing the word of God. It...

#187: Empowered by Faith

Image
2022 is still as fresh as February. We began the year looking at the relevance of divine direction in our decision making. We saw that the decisions we make as we plan our lives have a great deal on our future; could make or mar us. Because we have no idea of what tomorrow holds, we need direction and guidance from He who knows tomorrow. Now that the Lord has given us bearing for the year, we have to trust him and be persuaded that He will do that which He has promised.  20 But he did not doubt or waver in unbelief concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong and empowered by faith, giving glory to God, 21 being fully convinced that God had the power to do what He had promised. Romans 4:20-21 This is where faith comes in. So what then is faith?.  Now faith is the assurance (title deed, confirmation) of things hoped for (divinely guaranteed), and the evidence of things not seen [the conviction of their reality—faith comprehends as fact what cannot be experienced by the phy...

#186: Yearly Plan

Image
Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the LORD that will stand. ( Proverbs 19:21 ) Today's post is a sequel to the previous post: Let God Lead . This is another year. It is another time to be wild with plans and visions. by definition, planning entails designing the intentions for the future. One thing we all agree is that no one has been in the future. But there is a God who knows the end from the beginning. He is the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End ( Rev 1:8 ). He is not limited by time and space. And He knows this, not necessarily because He has seen it, but because, as our key verse puts it, He purposes them by divine decree ( Job 42:2 ; Isaiah 46:9-10 ) The bible does not discourage planning. The counsel of the bible is that we are very limited in knowledge as men. we only know the present and the past; we could use these to forecast a future, but we do not have the decisive power to create or orchestrate a future event - no matter how ...

#185: Let God Lead

Image
We welcome our readers, God lovers, sons and daughters of Zion to this glorious year of the Lord, 2022. We believe that God who has kept us thus far has great plans for us this year. He has promised and will continue to remain faithful. In this year 2022, we pray that this blog will serve as nourishment for our lives as we course through the journey of life.   The New Year is usually seen as a time for new resolutions, sober reflections with several phrases like ‘New year, new life,’ ‘Dawn of a new era’, flying around. While some see it as a time to make life-changing decisions others feel it’s just a change in the calendar. Howsoever it is, we make decisions daily; premeditated or not. The decisions we make as we plan our lives have a great deal on our future; could make or mar us. Because we have no idea of what tomorrow holds, we need direction and guidance from He who knows tomorrow. This is where Divine Direction comes in. This month, we will be trusting God to take us th...

#184: Tales of an Honoured Vessel (A Christmas Poem)

Image
Set on the donkey,  Fears hunting the indepts of my heart,  The cold winter breeze chewing my skin,  The struggle to hold on to hope.  The first census in what seemed like forever  My unfortunate predicament of journeying with a swollen stomach,  Swollen with another life,  The world's greatest miracle,  I smiled to myself,  Willing the beauty to remain.  Oh, he would be born in his home town,  The land of my very beloved...  The pains of the journey weakened my bones,  Every muscle screaming for help,  The constant battle to stay calm and strong.  For my beloved and unborn child.  The night stole the sun  And the moon, its glory.  I lay facing the stars,  The journey of the first day had come to an end.  With fears still breathing inside my heart  Unsure of what is to come,  I drifted into a beauty sleep.  But It lasted only for a moment.  And in what seemed to...

#183: Lamb Tales From Bethlehem (A Christmas Story)

Image
Ima limped painfully out of the wadi into which she fell earlier. It was not her fault. She fell in trying to protect me from a thornbush. Now there was a pebble stuck in her foot. But the Boy took it out. Ima must rest now. I am allowed to remain with her though I am old enough to be separated from the other young Rams. They are rough and tease me saying I will turn into a Ewe just like Ima, but Ima said it is not possible. I believe her. She is soft and smells of sweet grass. I lie next to her in the pen. Her breathing is slow and steady. I start to fall asleep. “You were always a queer little one, weren't you?” There was a smile in her voice as she said it. I turned my ears to Ima's voice as she spoke. “When I held you in my womb, my dear, the shepherd thought I was carrying twins! I was so heavy with you. I could not move like the other sheep. So, the farmer delayed our herd's migration until I had given you birth. I am eternally grateful. Yours was a difficult one. B...
