#180: Does God Actually Hide His Face?

Image
Psalm 44 I have often wondered: ‘If we’re all made in the image of God, God must really have an interesting appearance; His face to begin with.’ The word of God in John 4:24 however tells us that God is spirit, and as such does not literally have a face. So, by this we know that God’s face in today’s context is merely anthropomorphic, and represents His presence and favor in a life. We would notice the blessedness of God’s face from Aaron’s blessing for the children of Israel in Numbers 6:24-26, where it says: “The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face to shine upon you, and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you, and give you peace.” How beautiful can this be? What then does it mean for God to hide his face? God’s face is said to be hidden when it is obvious that His divine presence and favor can no longer be felt. It is a feeling of deep sadness and spiritual emptiness, which often arises in the heart and stems out to affect output. The P...

#164: God Is

And God said to Moses, "I AM WHO I AM." And He said, "Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, 'I AM has sent me to you.'" Exodus 3:14 Who is God? This is a question that we all get to wrestle with. When we are waiting on God to show up and fulfill the promises that He has given to us in scripture, who is God? While we may not be able to fully describe God, God has given us in scripture a whole lot of details about Himself that is adequate to answer this question whispering in our thoughts. Consider the children of Israel at this point in history; all the promises that were made to Abraham were yet to be fulfilled. The promise of being a great nation was not yet in sight. It was not fulfilled in Abraham's days, neither his son Isaac. This was many generations after and they were not yet in the promised land; they were instead slaves in a gentile nation. All the more reason to validate the silent question in their heart: who is God? Were God's ...

#66: I AM, therefore you are!

Then Moses said to God, “If I come to the people of Israel and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ what shall I say to them?” God said to Moses, “ I Am  Who  I Am .” And he said, “Say this to the people of Israel, ‘ I Am  has sent me to you.’” Exodus 3:13&14 Sequel to the last episode of our devotional a week ago, Moses was now ready to be encountered by God after that he had come to the wit-end of his abilities. When God wanted to reveal Himself to Moses, He used a rather strange name. Nevertheless, it is custom for God not to be careless in naming ceremonies. Why then would God introduce Himself as I AM? A couple of weeks ago i was viewing a program on TBN and in their interludes, they kept repeating this advertisement or would i say, message: "I AM, therefore you are! That message struck me in my spirit. I began to understand why the name answered Moses' question of who God is. "Those who...
