#189: Faith; How?

Inhaling and exhaling is a gift we don’t stop to think about very much. We just do it. In the same great way, God has offered us as Christians a way to “breathe spiritually” for our well-being which is through faith.

Having faith equals having trust. It means trusting God with your entire being that he has your back that he will take care of you. He knows what is best, but to truly embrace what he has planned for you, you have to fully trust. Our trust is not foolish, for our God is both faithful and good.

Faith is a gift from God and not something we can create.

In Hebrews 12:2, the originator of our faith calls us to consider his ultimate example of perseverance. He reminds us that runners in an athletic competition cannot be distracted by peripheral objects. Hence, as runners in this race of life, we must “fix our eyes on Jesus.” As we run, we must be looking at Him in faith. He is more than our example; He is our final destination. We must run toward Him with all our might, in the promise that we will be conformed to His image.

How then do we get this faith?

1. By hearing His Word

"So then faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17, NKJV).

If you want to grow in your faith, it starts by hearing, and that means feeding yourself with God’s Word. It affects your worldview and alters the way you think.

We want to see things the way God sees them, and we want to think the way He thinks. The good news is, there’s an entire book filled with the way God thinks: the Bible. Open your Bible and begin to read.

2. By believing His Word

If God said it, it doesn’t matter what you’ve heard that’s contrary to it. God’s Word trumps everything else.

It's not how much Faith we have.

Have you seen people who seem to have so much faith? They pray about things and soon, they see answers to their prayers. Why doesn’t their faith wither? It’s because they have taken their faith, no matter how small it was, and placed it in the right source.

Having faith is believing that God will accomplish what he says he will.

“God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?” Numbers 23:19

Having faith is believing God doesn’t lie. Have you ever seen the faith of a child? That’s the kind of faith God honors—a faith that believes God can do anything. How do we acquire that faith? We acquire it by deciding to trust God—one decision at a time.

God bless you as you grow in Faith.
