#27: DOUBT (I)

The attendant on whom the king leaned for support said to the Holy Man, “you expect us to believe that? Trapdoors opening in the sky and food tumbling out?” “You will watch it with your own eyes,” he said, “but you will not eat so much as a handful!” II Kings 7:2 (MSG)

The Word of God and His Promises have a way of overwhelming our human thoughts. There are times when God speaks to us and the very first question we ask ourselves is “How? This cannot happen”. It was clear from verse1 that the message was coming from God through His prophet. The reason why we doubt is usually because we do not see things the way God sees and ordains things (Isaiah 55:8-9). We must be careful never to limit the ways of God by our imagination.

The devil is very strategic in playing his tricks. Take notice of the fact that this disbelief was coming from the attendant on whom the king leaned for support.  He was more or less someone the king trusted. He was a dependable citizen. Anything the king left in his hand, he was sure to supervise it to completion. This was the person that was breathing disbelief on the king. I can imagine the king was leaning on him at this moment. When God has spoken, do we still leave room for friendly advice? Any friend that speaks contrary to God must be pushed aside. He is only breathing doubt on you. Such a person is no longer to be termed dependable.

God was about to turn the situation of Samaria around, but doubt in the heart of one man allowed him not to partake from the revival even though he would see it. In this verse we can see that doubt comes with a severe consequence. Everybody that ever doubted God from the beginning of time paid for it. The Israelites on Exodus from Egypt are a very ready example (Heb 3:7-11). The condition for salvation is to believe. As a matter of fact, Jesus said the only sets of people who are condemned already are those who doubt the Son of God’s power of Salvation. Your disbelief doesn’t stop God from being God. His word will always come true. You may just not be a partaker.

Reflection: Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your heart. Only believe.

Happy Sunday

Bassey Dawn.
