#138: The Guardrail

Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. (Psalms 91:1 NLT)

In these past days, while obeying the compulsory lockdown order by the Federal Government in compliance with the health expert's advice, there is a picture that keeps playing out in my mind: that "outside" is dangerous; there is an evil outside; and the safest place is "inside".

On this premise, the word of God for today finds relevance. Both in these days of the covid 19 pandemic and beyond if God grants us long life to see the end of the pandemic.

There is a fortress in God's presence. In the day of trouble you can run into it and be saved (Proverbs 18:10). But God's ultimate plan is not for us to run to this fortress only in the day of trouble because though we are in the world, we are not of the world (John 17:6-26). So we have to shield ourselves from the evil in the world habitually.

God's invitation to us today is to dwell. Stay and continue to stay within the boundaries of the guardrail He has prepared for you. Only within this guardrail will all the benefits written in Psalms 91 be our portion.

Unfortunately, we spend most of our days within this guardrail envying what is outside there. The second son in Luke 15:11-20 was in this category. But we can learn from his story that straying away from God's provisions will only bring us to our ruin:

He that diggeth a pit shall fall into it; and whoso breaketh an hedge, a serpent shall bite him. (Ecclesiastes 10:8 KJV)

Whoever leaves the path of wisdom will be on their way to an early death. (Proverbs 21:16 ERV)

But he who misses me or sins against me wrongs and injures himself; all who hate me love and court death. (Proverbs 8:36 AMPC)

Those who worship false gods turn their backs on all God's mercies. (Job 2:8 NLT)

As the son in Luke 15:11-20 found his way back to His father, may God's mercy locate us if we have wandered off and bring us back into the fold. Amen.

Thought: For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. (Romans 8:15 KJV). May God help our hearts never to see His provisions for our safety as bondage unto fear. Open our eyes to see the benefits of staying withing the guardrail and keep our hearts at perfect peace there that we never wander away or break the hedge. Amen.
