#23: The Example

Take my yoke and put it on you, and learn from me, because I am gentle and humble in spirit; and you will find rest.  Matthew 11:29

These are the words of Jesus speaking of Himself. God has set Him as the spectacle of living on earth. The bible confesses that Christ is the visible likeness of the invisible God. He is the first-born Son, superior to all created things. Colosians 1:15

In our day to day activities, God brings us across several persons that he intends for us to learn from; yet we must be careful to note that they are not the pattern. As a matter of fact, they have a pattern they are also following. That is why Paul was particular to tell the church in Corinth "Imitate me, then, just as I imitate Christ." 1 Cor 11:1. In other words, "The moment you notice (by decerning of spirits) that I have drifted from following Christ, at that point stop following me".

The aim of their labour over our lives and as God will help us, our labour on the lives of several persons God may bring under us should be to build the nature of Christ in them, and nothing else (Gal 4:19).

Action Point: It is high time we take Christ as our Pattern. Be careful not to make Men of God, the god of men.

  1. Christ is our standard. The Bible our Guide. Let's not allow the lives of people make us drift from the faith. Let's imitate Christ and do what pleases Him. The moment we notice that a so-called spiritual elite in our midst is misbehaving, we shouldn't follow that pattern rather, we ought to remain focus on Christ.

  2. 1 John 2:6
Whoever says he abides in Him ought [as a personal debt] to walk and conduct himself in the same way in which He walked and conducted Himself.
    Was blessed!
