#17: When Little Becomes Much

Jesus said to them, “Because you do not believe enough. I tell you the truth. If your strength to believe were as small as a little mustard seed, you could say to this hill, “Go, move over to that place!” and it would move. Nothing is too hard for you to do.” Matthew 17:20

Sometimes the Bible comes as simple as can be, and its simplicity could be enough reason to doubt its legit possibility. For example, how will you tell a sinner that if he believes in the mystery of the cross, that Jesus is ever ready to forgive and make him a new man? But that is the simple only way to salvation. When we are reading the Bible, sometimes we just have to accept the simple principles and steps that are being required, and God will prove His Words to be true.

Jesus was speaking in this verse concerning faith. He ended by saying confidently that NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR THOSE WHO BELIEVE. And when you read earlier, Jesus was even saying that you don’t need to believe so much. Faith as tiny as a mustard seed can make mountains to move. That is why Jesus can answer the prayers of Baby Christians that are just born into the kingdom of God.

Finally, let us look between the lines to see how practical our little faith can be. If the faith is just faith, the mountain will remain where it is, but when your faith can cause you to speak up to the mountain, and you make concerted proclamations concerning it, then it would move. It is actually for such persons that Jesus said nothing is impossible. James said faith without works is dead (James 2:17-18), and I see speaking to your mount as backing your faith with works. In summary the practicality and the strength of faith is in how much works it can cause you to do.

Action Point: Lord I believe in You. I believe in your Words, and I believe that all things are possible with You. Help me work in the similitude of the direction that my faith is going to. Amen!

HAPPY SUNDAY
