#102: Seek, And You Will Find

And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:13

There are many passages that tell us that seeking God is not a futile venture. It is not a journey that is aimless. Jeremiah 29:14a say: I will be found by you, says the LORD. God has actually brought Himself to divine proximity with us and urged us in Isaiah 55:6

Seek the LORD while He may be found, call upon Him while He is near.

Some Christians however spend their whole life looking for God and never find Him. Could they have been looking for Him in the wrong place? Could they have been looking for Him the wrong way? Or was God hiding Himself from them?

Isaiah 55:6 tells us that there is a time to seek God, and there is a season that He will not be near us. Sin is a great determinant of this. That is why the next verse clearly tells us to repent of our sins and come to God. It paints a picture that God has come to us today to be found by us-if we repent today. As II Corinthians 6:2 says "Now is the day of salvation".

The anchor text says that God will be found of us if we seek Him with all our heart. What does this actually mean? And could this be one reason why we have not yet encountered God? Matthew 5:8 say

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

As literal as we can understand this text, one of the reasons we never hear from God or see Him is because of an impure heart. An encumbered heart that has several distractions will not allow us to seek Him with all of our heart. God's standard has always been sure. He does not like a double minded mind. Anyone who saw God was looking for Him and He alone. It is God's standard that only pure hearts will see Him.

Is your heart encumbered with many gods? Are there distractions and several voices you are listening to? Are there things that are competing for space, time and dedication for God? They will hinder you from seeing Him. Repent today! Now that He is near. God wants you to find Him. Be deliberate. Nobody accidentally or carelessly found God.

Thought: Seek and you shall find. Matthew 7:7b.
